Choosing an Ideal Reader Is the #1 Secret to Writing a Self-Help Book

People often ask me what was the most important or surprising thing I learned while publishing my own book.

Truth is, I learned so many lessons it’s hard to narrow it down!

But one of my top-favorite lessons was:

The importance of writing the book for someone.

I was shocked by how much easier writing became when I thought about it as a conversation I was having with my friend Rob. (In the book I call him “Maggie,” but he’s really a dude.)

Rob is an old friend of mine who was well overdue for a book. And he was the person I had in my mind’s eye every time I sat down to write.

This practice is called “choosing an ideal reader,” and it’s a game-changer.

This is one of my favorite lessons of writing books, and I can’t wait to share it with you!

In this video you’ll learn:

  • What I mean by “ideal reader”—and why it’s important to choose someone you actually know
  • Three ways your ideal reader helps you vision and write your book
  • Why love is the most important selection criteria!
  • And more!

Turns out that when it comes to books—and everything else—it’s all about the love. Find out why in this video!
